作品について / About the Work

畳の上に横たわる人物を、抑えた色調と細やかな線で描いた作品です。身体を横切る衣服の縦縞と、畳の直線が異なる方向へ走り、静止した姿の内側にわずかな動きをつくります。宙にほどける細い線と定まらない視線が、タイトルの「迷い」を説明しすぎることなく、人物と周囲のあいだに余白を残しています。

A reclining figure is rendered on tatami in a restrained palette and fine lines. The vertical stripes of her clothing and the straight lines of the floor run in different directions, bringing slight movement into the otherwise still pose. A fine line unfurls into the air, while her unfixed gaze leaves space between the figure and her surroundings without overexplaining the sense of being ‘lost’ in the title.

作家コメント / Artist’s Comment

現代を生きるモデルと対峙し作品を描き起こす自身の制作スタイルは、モデルとの関係性にかなり依存している。彼女は出会った頃普通の美大生の女の子だったが、気づけば様々な作家が競うように描く絵画モデルに成長し、現代作家たちのミューズになった。当時、私はその現実に嫉妬し整理できずにいて、しばらく彼女にモデルをお願いすることができずにいた。しかし、久々にふらっとモデルを引き受けてくれることになり、ゆっくり横たわる彼女に夕陽が差し込んだとき、そういった他者への嫉妬心などどうでもよくなり、目の前の彼女の美しさに集中できた。彼女は時々私のもとにやってくる迷い猫のように可愛らしく、誰のものでもないのだと改めて実感した1枚だった。

My practice of confronting and painting models who live in the present depends greatly on the relationship I form with them. When I first met her, she was an ordinary art student. Before long, she had become a sought-after model painted by many artists—a muse for contemporary painters. At the time, I could not sort through my jealousy and stopped asking her to pose for me. Then, after a long interval, she casually agreed to model again. As evening light fell across her reclining body, my jealousy toward others ceased to matter and I was able to focus on the beauty before me. She seemed as endearing as a stray cat who visits from time to time, and I realized once more that she belongs to no one.

作家について / About the Artist

下重ななみは1995年神奈川県横浜市生まれ。2019年に女子美術大学芸術学部美術学科日本画専攻を卒業しました。白麻紙、墨、岩絵具など日本画の素材と技法を用い、モデルとの距離や関係性を大切にしながら、仕草や視線、衣服、周囲の空間を通して人物の内面がにじむ像を描いています。BSフジ「ブレイク前夜」第165回に出演。百貨店やギャラリーで個展・グループ展を重ねています。

Nanami Shimoju was born in Yokohama, Kanagawa, in 1995 and graduated in 2019 from the Japanese Painting course at Joshibi University of Art and Design. Working with traditional nihonga materials such as white hemp paper, sumi ink, and mineral pigments, she values the distance and relationship between artist and model, allowing an inner presence to emerge through gesture, gaze, clothing, and surrounding space. She appeared in episode 165 of BS Fuji’s Break Zenya and has presented her work in solo and group exhibitions at galleries and department stores in Japan.
