横向きの人物像の内部を、黒と白の曲線が反復するダズルパターンで満たした作品です。グラフィックな輪郭の中で、写実的に描かれた両眼だけが異なる質感を帯び、見る側と見られる側の関係を静かに揺さぶります。落ち着いた青の背景に人物像が浮かび、肖像とカモフラージュが重なる「Portrait of Dazzle」シリーズの一作です。

A silhouetted profile is filled with a repeating black-and-white dazzle pattern. The realistically rendered eyes introduce a different visual register within the graphic form, quietly unsettling the relation between viewer and subject. Set against a muted blue ground, this work brings portraiture and camouflage together within Matsuyama's Portrait of Dazzle series.

作家について / About the Artist

松山しげきは1973年静岡県生まれ。ダズル迷彩を想起させる反復模様と写実的な眼差しを組み合わせた「Portrait of Dazzle」シリーズをはじめ、見ること、見られること、匿名性や自己像の揺らぎを扱う作品を発表しています。国内外のギャラリー、美術館、アートフェアで継続的に作品を発表しています。

Born in Shizuoka in 1973, Shigeki Matsuyama is known for the Portrait of Dazzle series, which combines repeating camouflage-like patterns with realistically rendered eyes. His work examines seeing and being seen, anonymity, and the instability of the self-image, and has been presented internationally in galleries, museums, and art fairs.
