1979年東京都生まれ。2003年多摩美術大学日本画科卒業。広告デザインの仕事を経て、2010年の初個展から作家活動を展開する。漫画のコマ割りを絵画に取り入れ、区切られた画面ごとに異なる描法を用いる「Psychological Collage」を制作。漫画、日本画、水墨画、コラージュなどから受けた影響を組み合わせ、内面の多様さや移り変わりを肖像として表現する。roidworksgalleryでは「Psychological Collage II FRAGMENTS」（2020年）などを開催し、2024年には同シリーズの「LAYOUT PAINTING」を発表した。
Kotaro Hoshiyama was born in Tokyo in 1979 and graduated in Japanese painting from Tama Art University in 2003. After working in advertising design, Hoshiyama began exhibiting as an artist with a first solo show in 2010. The practice developed into Psychological Collage, a method that draws on the panel structure of manga and places different ways of painting within a divided composition. Influences from manga, Japanese painting, ink painting, and collage are brought together to explore the multiplicity and changing states of the inner self through portraiture. Solo exhibitions at roidworksgallery include Psychological Collage II FRAGMENTS in 2020. In 2024, Hoshiyama presented LAYOUT PAINTING as a further exhibition within the same series, continuing to work with multiple images and approaches on the painted surface. Kotaro Hoshiyama has also been featured on BS Fuji’s Break Zenya, a television programme introducing contemporary artists and their work.
